Kerbside recycling to continue as normal in the Goulburn Valley

The collection and processing of recycling in the Goulburn Valley remains unchanged, with residents encouraged to continue to recycle as usual.

Kerbside collection of recyclable materials in the Goulburn Valley has not been affected by a recent notice issued by the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) ordering the SKM Material Recycling Facilities in Coolaroo and Laverton North to stop receiving material.

The Goulburn Valley Waste and Resource Recovery Group’s partner Councils: Campaspe, Greater Shepparton, Mitchell, Murrindindi, Moira and Strathbogie do not use these facilities and the collection and processing of recyclable materials will continue as normal in the Goulburn Valley.

The EPA notice was triggered by concerns with stockpiled material at the Coolaroo and Laverton North sites and the threat to community safety and the environment.

Goulburn Valley residents can take a few simple steps to assist in achieving a sustainable reprocessing system:

  • Continue to recycle as usual;
  • Know what you can and can’t recycle.  If in doubt, visit your local council’s website for more information on what you can and can’t recycle;
  • Prevent waste from the start.  Try to limit how much non-recyclable material you buy;
  • Buy Australian recycled products. Recycled office paper and toilet paper are easy ways to start.
